KCAL Cares: Healing After Disaster Through Extraordinary Volunteers

“Behind every healing moment is a volunteer who shows up with compassion and hope.”

KCAL Cares joined us on the ground to share how Fully Alive Community Health is walking alongside survivors of the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires. Recovery doesn’t end when the flames are extinguished. Through free, compassionate healthcare and mental health support, we’re helping individuals and families heal, rebuild, and find hope for the journey ahead.

We are deeply grateful for our extraordinary volunteer team of physicians, nurses, therapists, dentists, optometrists, and other healthcare professionals who generously bring their expertise, compassion, and time to serve our neighbors. This work would not be possible without them.

Meet Dove: Our New Disaster Response Unit

We’re proud to introduce Dove, Fully Alive Community Health’s new stand-alone Disaster Mobile Unit, designed to bring care, stability, and hope where they are needed most. Dove is a self-contained mobile response unit built to operate independently when local infrastructure has been damaged or disrupted.

One of Dove’s most unique features is its ability to generate its own power. When its solar “wings” expand, they capture solar energy, allowing Dove to serve as a mobile power source in areas where electricity may be unavailable. Along with providing medical triage, water, power, and communications support, this self-sustaining design allows our team to remain on the ground and serve communities even when traditional infrastructure is down.

Dove’s name reflects what we hope Dove will bring wherever it deploys: help, healing, and hope in the midst of crisis.

We are incredibly grateful to our partner, Direct Relief, whose generosity and shared commitment to disaster response made Dove possible. Their partnership strengthens our ability to show up when communities need us most—bringing critical resources, compassionate care, and hope directly to those impacted by disaster.
